#1 Having a website can boost my business: Having a page on internet is just like owning a space or renting a shop. You just can’t expect great amount of crowd in your shop without putting efforts into promoting your shop in public. Same goes with your website too, once you have launched your website it is important to promote your website with techniques like search engine optimization, Pay per click advertisements, affiliate advertising etc.

#2 Creating a website is free: Well technically it is! But it doesn’t help you make a great mark online. It restricts the amount of creative freedom you get in developing and presenting a website. Also you don’t get a strong and inviting domain name when you host your site for free. It generally appears like this www.yourbrandname.hostname.net. Professional websites are never hosted for free, because they are hosted using dedicated servers which enable their seamless functioning and high bandwidths. They include domain purchasing charges and hosting rentals yearly or monthly. But I must say free website is a great way to get started if you are working in zero budget

#3 Website is necessary for online presence: Agreed! this sounds sensible right? when you have a website you are available online. But If you are a small business and want people to find you across the web I would recommend going for online directories like Google, Sulekha, Askme, Justdial etc. This doesn’t involve all the hassle you go through in publishing your site, you just give your Business Name and related details to them and your business name would show up each time someone searches of something coherent.

#4 It’s a website right? I can do it myself: Well if you are like me, you will give this thing a thought. “Its just doing something with computers, I know the basics I will do it myself”. Believe me it isn’t easy at all, this may sound discouraging, but building a website needs skills and proficiency with languages like HTML, Java, PHP, CSS etc. Only professionals can build a site that is not only compatible across various devices and platforms, but it also stands out on the internet.

#5 All of this is a one-time hassle, Right? I would use the same analogy of a shop here, once you get started with your shop don’t you feel keeping your customers updated with new arrivals and offers at your shop is important? Just like that, keeping your website up-to-date with new things to offer and latest range of products is important. Even the smallest of the businesses need to update their site once a month and revamp it annually to keep up with latest trends and interests.

While this is not all of what you need to know, but I hope this would give you a clear perspective regarding owning a website.
